Mary Copplestone
Strength & Conditioning Coach
ABOUT Mary

Mary is a Strength and Conditioning Coach with a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science from Loughborough University.
Her interest in S&C developed through her time at university, where she gained experience in high-performance sport through internships with British Skeleton and British Weightlifting, as well as volunteering with Loughborough Swimming’s Strength and Conditioning team.
These experiences gave Mary the opportunity to work alongside athletes, coaches and support staff, getting involved in everything from gym-based training and physical testing to performance analysis. They also gave her an appreciation for the different demands placed on athletes and the importance of making training specific to the individual.
Since graduating, Mary has worked with both athletes and general population clients through one-to-one and small-group coaching. She has experience working with youth and academy athletes, helping them build the strength, movement skills and physical foundations they need to support their sport as they develop.
Alongside performance coaching, Mary enjoys working with people who simply want to get stronger, feel more comfortable in the gym or build confidence in their training. She believes good coaching should meet people where they are, rather than expecting everyone to train in the same way.
Mary has also worked with clients training around lower-back, shoulder and ankle injuries. She takes an adaptable approach, modifying exercises and sessions where needed so that clients can continue making progress without taking an all-or-nothing approach to training.
Her coaching is centred around the individual — their goals, experience, needs and, importantly, what they actually enjoy doing. Whether the goal is improving sporting performance, returning to training after injury or simply becoming stronger and more confident, Mary aims to make training both effective and enjoyable.
Outside of coaching, Mary enjoys training herself and taking on new challenges. Most recently, she completed the Outlaw 70.3 triathlon, combining her own training with a new challenge outside of the gym.
